Name Dropping | Houston Quilt Market

My trip to the International Quilt Show in Houston was fast and jam-packed. I could go on and on about my personal education, but that might bore you since you won't have the voice inside my head with the pertinent asides to keep you in the loop.

Socially, there is a lot more to be told. On Friday I was graciously invited to Fabric 2.0, a posh little get-together. Our bright hostess, Caroline Devoy of jcaroline creative describes the last party on her blog: "The idea was to get the bloggers, new fabric designers, and anybody else that is doing something cool in the fabric industry together."

I admit, being invited to such a party was one of my motivating factors in going to the show in the first place. I was very on the fence a lot of the time (money, time, kids, you know... stuff), but when I got this invitation, firstly, I was incredibly flattered, secondly, it would mean meeting so many familiar names. I mean, really, what an opportunity! So, couple this affair with the show itself, and it was a very worthwhile investment.

About the party... (here comes the name dropping- hoping I get everyone!) I immediately met Jessica Jones and Lizzy House. Followed by Caroline herself. Then I chatted with Diane Hoffman of Bee Square Fabrics and her husband, Michael for quite a while, until Diane was feeling compelled to meet Jay McCarroll. Then Ms. Patricia Zapata walked in and we were stuck together like glue the rest of the evening...  Then, of course, was Kim Kight of True Up fame... such a pleasure to chat with! I later introduced myself to Heather Bailey, Jane Sassaman, Weeks Ringle and Patty Young. It wasn't until the next day I realized that there were so many other people there that I had wished to meet, like Paula Prass and her daughter, Melissa Averinos of Yummy Goods... and I'm sure I'm forgetting so many more. It was a good time. The next day at the show, I introduced myself to just about everyone... Anna Maria Horner, Tina Given, Mark Lipinski, Amy Butler to name a few.

On the Henry Glass & Co front, I met many of my teammate designers at the show- Pam and Janet of Buggy Barn, Anne Sutton, Barbara Jones, Linda Lum Debono, and Lynette Anderson. I learned a lot from speaking with all of them!

At some point I will be doing a post about some of fabric lines that caught my attention one of these days, so stay tuned!

I would've loved meeting all those other designers you saw at the show. I can imagine the overload of information and inspiration you must have had by being there. Lucky you!

What a wonderful experience! I can imagine how fantastically overloaded your brain must be with all that you met, saw and did. Sort of like a red carpet Disney Land for fabric enthusiasts! I am enjoying living vicariously through your exciting ventures! (It is especially nice as I don't have to worry about what to wear or remembering everyones names, both of which can send me into a nervous tizzy!)
