Here's another print I've been trying to work out for my new Shade Garden quilt line. I'm all of the sudden feeling the pressure to make this happen, so I've been buckling down. I admit a few snags in my concept, one being more ideas than I need. I also realized that the coral bells will probably not be in this, but never fear, I need some companion prints for my own personal line which includes this mushroom print, so all is well.
1/ The Sketch- or doodle. I bet if anyone saw this, they would hardly know what they were looking at! I did this on the train yesterday morning.
2/ The Components- again, a bit like doodling computer-style.
3/ The Repeat- building the print over a transparency of my sketch is helpful. As you can see, I barely stuck to the original plan, but the concept of "dots" and lines weaving thru the little "triangles" is apparent.
4/ Finished Print- 'cept for color.
Color is last. I haven't even finalized a palette yet. I don't usually do it first, but I do have an idea in my head. For some reason, this one is more difficult to nail conceptually. I think it's because each shade garden plant I think of has it's own unique color. I need to unify and stylize these in order to create a put together assemblage of prints.
This print has more of the playful quality I'm looking for in the quilting line, so it's probable I will keep this in. Just a few more details to work out and refine.
10 lovely notes:
It's cute with the snails and the swirly stitched lines...I like the playfulness of it.
I think this one is really delightful. I enjoy the way you have shown the path of the little snails, weaving and looping around the mushrooms. Very joyful!
This is adorable! I am so fascinated with the process you go through (I wanna try!), thanks so much for sharing with us!
I do love this touch of whimsy in this new piece.
"Delightful" is the right word, as per Victoria.
ooo I like it! I'd be in so much trouble if I could do this. I love the lil' snails, very playful and fun! Excited to see what colors you decide on.
Pretty design. Simple and sweet!
I love watching your progress. I am in the same boat - trying to finish up my patterns for printing - funny, the same timeline as you! I use a bit different techniques - so it's great seeing your approach. Great work!
This is fascinating! I can't wait to see the finished product...
Laughing that I am not the only one doing the quirky hair thing - whew - I feel so much better about it!
Wonderful! My B would be all over this one...he is so into snails right now!
This is sooo cool! I love getting to see how you create your designs! Makes me want to design fabric too (which is something I've always wanted to do but don't think will happen in the near future!)!
