Giveaway | Cicada Studio Fabric

SIIIIIIIGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH.

That's my big sigh of relief. After months- MONTHS!- of dreaming of and working hard to get to this moment, it has finally arrived.

I now have fabric to sell!

But first, I have fabric to GIVE AWAY! YAY! For those who are familiar with this tree print, I would like to introduce you to its new official name (a stage name, if you will...): Walk Through The Woods. When running the pattern I decided to do a Spring and Autumn colorway... this way there's twice as many uses for this fun print. Actually, seeing them both now, I have to wonder if I don't lean a little more towards the Autumn color as it matches my living room exactly (weird, huh?)

This is a 50% linen/50% cotton blend weighing about 6oz sq/yd. It's a nice hefty weight ideal for many craft projects. It's surprisingly soft with a good drape. More details on the washing will be found at the listing in my shop.  I can't wait to see what people will make with it down the road-  I hope those of you out there who purchase it will share their projects with me (see this post for details)! This is so exciting, I am besides myself with glee.

OK, enough chit chat, right? Here's the scoop on the giveaway!

There will be 3 prizes:
1. The grand prize winner (1st number drawn) will receive a parcel containing 2 fat quarters, measuring 18"h x 26"w one of each Walk In The Woods colorway. They will also receive 1 linen swatch from my shop of their choosing. (a $42 value)
2. The 1st runner up winner (2nd number drawn) will receive 1 fat quarter of Walk In The Woods- winner's choice of color. (a $17 value)
3. The 2nd runner up winner (3rd number drawn) will receive a single linen swatch from my shop in a pattern of their choosing. (an $8 value)

Rules (yeah, those pesky things)
1. Leave a comment telling me your single favorite color and why. Be as specific or vague in name, as poetic or as basic in description as you wish- but you must choose only one color and you must tell me why. I think coming up with just one color is very difficult, but when you settle on it, it's easy to say why you like it so much. My advice is to be impulsive and just go with the first one that enters your head- even if it's *MUSTARD!*. I know, I'm a stinker for making you work so hard, but I sort of think it's fun, don't you? Don't worry, I won't hold you to it! This is just pure curiosity on my part and this seems like a perfect venue for asking such a thing.
2. On Wednesday May 28th, 9:00pm EST my son and I will draw a winner. That is he will help if he's not too bored with this project by now. He was getting a little blasé about it last time. There goes my little helper!
3. Anyone in the world can participate!
4. Be sure to include your contact info. If I can't contact you and/or you don't claim your prize within 3 days, I will choose another winner and those under the grand prize winner will be bumped up to the next level, meaning the new chosen winner will become the 2nd runner up, etc...

Wow they are beautiful. Where will we be able to purchase? My favorite color has been green for a long time. Really any time of green but right now I am into a sage green. My draw to it is the connection to nature and the main color in my wedding.

Helen said...

Wow! How beautiful!! And you did that!?!

My favorite color is black, although my kids constantly tell me black is not a color. I say if it's in the Crayola box, it's a color.
I love black because I look good in it, it has become my trademark color, it makes me look thin and because I think black is mysterious.
I own way too many black shirts and dresses but I love every one of them.
My house, on the other hand, is lots of pastels but I did manage to weave a lot of black in my dining room by way of a wrought iron rocker, clock and some little black teddy bears.

Gorgeous! Love this fabric!

My fave color is red! Pretty much all hues of it (except for rose or pink) will do it for me. It's so vibrant and it looks great paired with black!

High Desert Diva said...

Yay for your fabric. I'm so excited for you...I like both colorways, but like you, I lean more towards the orange/fall.

As far as favorite color...in what context?

Clothes: black
First color that came to mind: blue
Top choices from color personality test: lime and fuschia
Favorite color for walls: red
Best color for me to wear: springy green

I'll stop now...

brookeahanadaily said...

Gorgeous and big congratulations - you are so inspiring!

So, my favorite of color is pretty tough being a painter and very interested in combinations of colors, but impulsively if I have to choose just one at this moment I'd have to say periwinkle. Because sometimes really early in the morning or during a sunset it is the color I see in the sky and it is very rare to find there and jsut so delicious!

ikkinlala said...

My favourite colour is blue, because it's the colour of water and sky (and a blue sky is sometimes the brightest things around in the winter).

_shakty_ said...

I just love those colorways they are really lovely, It's hard for me to choose only one color , because I enjoy combinations and cold colorways, that's why my favorite color is Blue in any hue, blue relaxes me and makes me feel cool and energetic at the same time lol
Yay for blue and your lovely fabric collection!
Have a nice day!

Lorelei said...

Wonderful fabric!! I love them both!
I'm partial to the green.
Green is my favorite color...the color of leaves in the summer, the color of the sea, the color of 80% of my bead stash!! I can definitely saw it's any shade of green but when it comes to semi-precious stones, my favorite by far is PREHNITE.
Thanks for the Giveaway Michelle!

Bonghi Vestiti said...

Oh my just one color!? Well I have to say it's RED...not just any red...it has to have the hues of some orange,a little rust and a touch of brown. Does that make sense? Hahah...I have that color in almost every room in my house...it just makes me smile :)

Judith said...

My favourite colour is olivegreen. Why, because I look good in it.

reneedesigns said...

Those are both beautiful. I especaily love the Spring.

It is hard to choose one color. I would say pink because its so happy. But in reality my favorite color has always been green, in all shades. I love springtime because everywhere you turn green is peaking up in all its glorious shades. I love it so much I even have two pairs of green shoes (they make me so happy).

Cover That Mother said...

Those are great prints!

My favorite color (at the moment) is sienna. It's a rich combo of the dry summer heat and the cool autumn breeze.

fluffnflowers said...

Very cool! I really like the print. I hearted it, so I'll be able to come back to it when I finally get around to sewing shades for the house. It'd look quite nice in my dining room.

As for my favorite color, my first thoughts were 'blue -- no! purple...um...blue!', so blue it is. I can't say why I like it, really. I think a big reason is that I never saw anything natural that was blue, except the occasional perfect day, until I was about 12. Reds, yellows, greens you can find in plants, on birds, rocks, etc., but nothing really matched the color that I could find in my crayon box or that my fingers were constantly stained with from fingerpainting. I've seen true blue lakes, glaciers, now, but it's still my top color.

AprilDawn said...

*sigh* I was in hearting away your fabric last night. I'm happy you finally have it in your shop!

My favorite colour right now is like a spring(ish) aqua/turquoise/colour of the gulf ocean in Florida colour. That could have a little to do with just getting married down there. Its actually similar to your summer bubbles fabric.

(I also have become rather fond of pink, but pink fabric doesn't currently suit my decor)

I've lived in five different cities in the past five years, which is tough for someone who really wants to own a teapot. You can't just take a teapot with you across continents. But, I like teapots. And in my mind, I have this beautiful vintage-look kitchen, with soft, seafoam green teal and white as the dominant colours, and just hints of deep cherry red here and there. And a prominent place for my teapot -- a sleek, smooth bubble of a teapot, in teal, which I don't yet own, but am looking forward to purchasing, onces these legs stop moving long enough for me to set down some roots.

teal.

sbonetsue said...

You are so right, picking a favorite color is hard. What pops into my head right away is pink, rose pink, not pale pink. Why, that color seems to calm me and invigorate me at the same time, it is romantic and sweet but vibrant too. When I shop for clothes I seem to be drawn to that color, it seems to work with my pale skin. When I quilt that color seems to find it's way into most of my quilts also.

Thanks for the chance to win some of your lovely fabric.

Green! A nice spingy leafy green - Spring is my favourite season and a little bit of spring green in the middle of winter can work wonders to cure the winter blues!

Just found your blog via picciolo! I'm going to bookmark it fast! :)

Gorgeous fabric. I love that you made both the Spring and Autumn colorways. Great design!

I always always always choose BLACK!
Black is sexy. Black is cool. Black is not basic!

Victoria said...

Congratulations on the fabric, incredibly exciting!

For years I refused to even consider a favorite color, it is to much like trying to pick a favorite child. Each one is unique and brings it's own special qualities to the table. They are all cherished!

But I have noticed that I seem to have a particular fondness to certain greens. Chartreuse, olive, sage, lime, sea glass green... and I really dig what I refer to as "ugly greens" which seems to be a combination of the first two greens I listed. But the real reason that I think I like green so much is how it relates to all the other colors. It makes them pop, yet keeps things calm at the same time. Green is good!

Nicole R.J. said...

Robin's Egg Blue is my absolute favorite. I love how cheery and fresh it is, and I especially love that it's a little bit more accepted by the Mr. (in home decor that is) than my second favorite colour: pink. ;)

My favorite color changes with the seasons. Since we are in spring I'm very into yellow. It is strange because I never really liked yellow until this year! And soon it will probably be white for summer, green for fall and red for winter!

What an awesome giveaway!

My favorite color is turquoise. It reminds me of the crystal clear water of the Caribean ocean, of the breeze and light scent of salt water, of dipping my toes into the cool refreshing water. The color provides me with really great memories of my family in Puerto Rico.

My favorite color: green. Simply, because to me, green represents life. Pure, wonderful life!

How beautiful. :D It's hard to pick just one favorite color. For me most of the color's personality comes through by combining it with other colors. But I love little hints of bright orange-red. :)

Red.

I want to say green, a mossy green but I am drawn to red and I only realise it when looking through my flick and seeing all the red I use. I use it so much. I wander around fabric shops looking for red. It is all about red. It surprises me, because there isn't a whole lot of red variety. Mix it with white and you're into pink. But red goes faster!

cobalt blue

It's rich and deep and cool like water. Yet it's not pretentious. I am always drawn to it, but not in clothing. I especially like coblat blue glass. It takes just a spot of it to add real impact. I have light fixtures, ceilings, a butter dish, drinking glasses and even vintage chunky candlesticks of it.

One color....
That is very hard. I guess I would have to say green. It is the first non brown color we see here in the spring. I love that one day in spring where we notice that the grass is GREEN it is usually the same day that the trees lining the streets in town have the first signs of green just tiny little bits that make them look like green lace in the sky.

What lovely fabric. I think my favorite color right now is candy apple red. I just love the vibrant, happy nature of it. It brightens any room, including the outdoors!

Tanvi said...

A different take on my favorite color:
I have never had a favorite color. There have been colors that I have liked but never has there been a distinct favorite. The likes range from the rich, royal purples of glizty Bollywood costumes to fresh, lively greens from New Zealand’s forests to the crisp white of clouds seen from an airplane window. When I was younger, colors were a way of storing memories; each tone and hue had a place and a time attatched to it. I liked to capture the colors I liked in imaginary glass jars. They were storage for later, so I could keep the colors forever.

What jumps into mind is Moroccan Red. The red is an orange-red, but faded. It feels like home to me.

We have two rugs my husband bought in Morocco and both contain this red, a mustard yellow, and black. They hang on our walls, though one is room sized, and they are some of our favorite works of art.

Blue. Greeny-blue to be precise.

I didn't realise it was my favourite colour until after I bought my car, as I have since found myself trying to co-ordinate everything with it.

Other colours are good too, but I definately like greeny-blue best of all.

Lovely beautiful fabrics by the way. Very clever you!

Turquoise.

I didn't even have to think about that one. It's a playful color, but not too bright. It can be deep and even a bit dark, which makes it more serious.

hmmm...I think Robin's Egg blue would be my pick. For so many reasons - first being, it's the color of a Robin's Egg, second, it's so crisp and clean and it reminds me of the ocean, my walk-in toy closet as a kid and the underneath of my sister's top bunk...I begged my father to paint it that color and then paint clouds...never did get the clouds done.

gosh your fabric is gorgeous ...please pick me -- my favorite color along with the name for it is "aubergine" ... you could call it eggplant but please don't :-). Awesome giveaway! Favorite color? oh this is hard for me, I like too many, hands down if all else fails a rich brown does me in. (But I really do love reds too) Oddly enough my wedding was lavendar, I don't really have a strong tie to purple anymore, but apparently I loved it 9 years ago! Blues--who can neglect blue?

So I'm going to go with BlUE. Blue is probably my fave for clothing (etc) Browns for around the house.

That was hard for me.

I can be pretty specific about my favourite colour, because I know its hex code - 8fa659. It's the sort of colour you can use anywhere and feel like you've made the right choice - it looks beautiful in a nice, light linen. As paint it goes in any room, in pixel-form it's beautiful with black or white (and red, if I'm feeling adventurous), in nature it's spring and it's olives. It reminds me of glossed school corridors and old fashioned kitchens.

So, yeah. 8FA659. Underrated.

my favorite color is a shade of green that is called "enchanted forest" it was the color of my bedroom in my last apartment(i've never been able to find the same shade again). i love it because not only does it create a sense on calm in my mind, but it reminds me of my favorite place in the world. camp bonnie brae, its a girl scout camp in the berkshire mountains of massachusetts. at camp, there is a camping spot across the lake accessible only by canoe, and it is called the enchanted forest. and that shade of green, reminds me of the trees both in the light of the summer sun, and the moon. i loved the color because i could come home from a busy stressful day in boston(where i live) and go to my room and just take in the color to relax, and go to camp in my mind. or at least until the summer when i go there to escape the "real world".

being an art student my favorite class was color theory. and of all the colors i've seen, that green is still my favorite.

Your fabric is just gorgeous!

Ok - my favorite color is chartreuse. I love the first color of spring, that soft chartreuse halo around trees (especially willows!) just as they are beginning to bud.

And I love combining chartreuse with grey, black, brown, bottle green....

That fabric is stunning!!

My favorite color - has to be blue, almost any shade. I've always been fond of blue, and even though I've gone through "phases" (like the purple phase in high school), I always come back to blue! It's calming and soothing to me - like coming home.

OK, I have fallen for eggplant because it's not quite purple. I haven't owned anything eggplant before this year and now I can't get enough.

my favourite colour is green-- probably why i adore this leafy fabric so much! i prefer the leafy/apple-y shades (which my room is painted in) because they are just so fresh and spring-y. it's amazing how that colour just rejuvenates my spirit =)

My favorite color is blue. Not wild bright crayon blue, but soft blue. Why? Its calming. Maybe it gives me the feeling of laying under a tree looking up at the sky to make cloud shapes with the kids... Soft Blue- Favorite. =)

How exciting... I already have plans for this fabric!

I love green... it's an energizing yet peaceful color and for me it inspires creativity and a sense of freshness. I think that's one reason why I need to be surrounded by plants! I am also very attracted to a specific shade of teal, though I think a new name needs to be assigned to the color.

Beautiful fabric and design! My favorite color is PINK! Why exactly? I don't know, but I have always been drawn to it, and pink in all but the most garrish shades are always my choice. I had to learn when decorating my house to go AWAY from the pink and towards the yellows and green, but at least I always look good when wearing pink.

My favorite color is Teal. It looks fantastic on me, it reflects me, bright and striking, but can be tailored and sophistocated.

And because my husband hates it but says I look great in it, so it's the color of truth.

Congrats!

Ah, awesome giveaway! On to the fav color...
I'd have to say brown (though I'm tempted to say orange). I've got a thing for 70's decor which features A LOT of browns and for some reason, when dressing myself I always reach for something. It's the color of the Earth man, and I think that's awesome...

I came here via true up. I love that blog! I love this fabric, too. Its so pretty. I'm very much into trees, birds, leaves right now myself. Both colorways are so pretty.

My personal favorite color? Just a really true red. Red makes me happy and I tend to pick out fabric with red in it. Of course I love so many colors but if I had to pick one single color, definately a mediumish red!

Katie said...

My favorite color bounces between blue and green. I’m not sure why.
Green always reminds me of nature and good stuff, like avocados. And blue because, well, it goes best with my skin tone.

Silly reasons, I know. :-D

carrie said...

Avocado green is my favorite color, I don't know why but I am always drawn to it over every other color.

Oh I love the spring leaves. Such a pretty green.

My favourite colour is purple. Any shade of purple. I love it because it's the colour of a Heffalump. If I could, my whole house would be purple. Instead, I plant lots of purple flowers in my garden.

Congrats on your fabric - gorgeous.

You want me to name one favourite colour...are you for real??? Hmmmmm that is a tough one...as I think about it I realise I have had many favourites over time depending on the stage of life, what I was up to. But I think I have always had an enduring love of pink...sigh...it seems in some ways to be such a typical girly choice...but actually it is a very versitile colour...from pale and dusky to vibrant and psycodelic (sp??) It can be worn by little girls and grown men, it is perfect for both lingerie and hats and shoes. It makes cupcakes look delish and diamonds stunning. Ahhh pink - I see exactly what you mean about once settled on a colour you know it is the one!

my favorite color is spring green -- aka "sprout" or "leaf" or even "pear". It just makes me *FEEL* growth and new things. I've decorated my sewing studio with bits and bobs of green, to remind me to always grow.

Plus, it looks great on redheads ;)

So pretty! I love the leaves combined with the simple lines and red dots. Favourite colour is definitely green. Well maybe red. No green... Yes green, mostly. :) Green I like because it covers such a wide spectrum of shades and moods, happy and sad, natural and fake, and it's good in just about any setting. Plus I look better when I wear green I think - I adore the punch that red gives but you have to love a colour that makes your skin look better. So shallow... I guess this is why I'm immediately drawn to the spring colourway because it has the greens that I love with the red dots to give it the oomph. Perfect combo!

Pale pink, like peonies. It's so soft and calming and I just love it. LOVE IT. I have since I was a little kid, even though I denied it during the teen years.

I love your fabric! I want to make children's gardening aprons with it.

The leaves may be gone but there are splashes of PUMPKIN! everywhere. The actual pumpkins all around are an inspiration to me, I start doing felt applique pumpkins on everything :-).

Red is my favorite color. Maybe it's because I was a school teacher and I used red pens all the time. Maybe it's because I'm a Red Sox fan. I almost bought a red car, but that was too over the top. I've been looking for fabric to make some red curtains for my living room. Red is good.

I've had a yellow bedroom for as long as I can remember.

My favorite color is green. Not forest green, but a kind of springy green (although the shade can sometimes change to fit my mood).

I never stopped to ask myself "why" - that's a good question. I suppose I like it because it's such a peaceful color, and reminds me of so many things that I like (grass, trees, flowers...). Also a bonus is that it matches practically everything.

Green. For all of the nature-y reasons mentioned in other comments, I opine...but think the real reason it's the favorite color of most of my 7 siblings is that it was our father's signature color, and we all still want to be like him.

I love the pretty skinny leaves, and am crossing my fingers for a big win here!

My favorite color at the moment is teal. I'm resisting mentioning my favorite color to go with it, and I flip-flop between the two, but if I MUST pick only one, today it seems to be teal. The teal of the peeling paint on the kitchen chairs in the house where I grew up, thick and oil-based, layered over itself as we wore it thin with our bodies, then painted it on again...

In my little favorite color duo, teal is the mom color, and the other color goes with my dad. But I won't mention it. Because I must choose only one.
